50 Years of Seeta Aur Geeta

This film is a classic entertainer, released on 24th November 1972, the film was a blockbuster. Inspired by Ram Aur Shyam the film has a strong script by Salim Javed. Hema Malini in a double role brings the film to life with her natural charm and beauty.

The story is about identical twins (played by Hema Malini) who are separated at birth and grow up with different temperaments. After they meet each other as adults, they swap places. The two sisters' partners in the movie are played by Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar, while Manorama plays the villainous aunt.

Despite the presence of Dharmendra who was the reigning star of the time. and Sanjeev Kumar, it is an outright Hema Malini film. She got the Filmfare Award for best actress for that year.R.D. Burman's music is outstanding. All the songs are lovely, from the happily exciting "Oh Saathi Chal" to the catchy "Zindagi Hai Khel" to the ballad "Haan Ji Haan"

In continuation of giving hits from Tum Haseen Mein Jawan and Sharafat by the hit Jodi Dharmendra and Hema Malini, this was their third hit movie in a row for the year 1972. It was the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 1972.

The film was made under the banner of Seven Arts Pictures by producer Madan Mohla and directed by Mohan Sehgal from a script by Nabendu Ghosh with dialogue by Ali Raza. The music was the highlight of the film with many popular songs such as , “A. B. C. chhodo”, “Jani o jaani” by Kishore Kumar, “Duniya ka mela mele mein Ladki"and more.

He finds one in a street dancer, Shanoo (Hema Malini), trains her up as a princess, and presents her to the Rajmata (Durga Khote) as her long lost granddaughter, Ratna. Rajmata is delighted to have her back,  With lots of twists and turns take over, bringing into the plot  Raja and Ratna carry out a well-thought-out plan, and the lovers are united by the grandmother.

Parichay is a 1972 film released on 20th October. The film was partially inspired by the 1965 movie The Sound of Music. It is directed by Gulzar who changed the looks ans screen image of Jeetendra who by that time was called the Jumping Jack.

It is a feel-good film unlike other 70s Masala Movies with a hero who bashes people. It stars Jeetendra, Jaya Bhaduri and Pran in the lead role, Sanjeev Kumar and Vinod Khanna are as guest and special appearance

The story is about a misunderstanding between a father Rai Saheb and son Sanjeev Kumar who wants to pursue a career in singing and also marry the girl of his choice but his father was not agreeble so Sanjeev Kumar leaves the home and maries the girl of his choice.

Unfortunately, his wife dies and soon he also is diagnosed terminally ill. After he dies, his father Rai Saheb(Pran) brings home the grandchildren to his palatial home but the children are quite rebel and against their grandfather. The eldest child is Jaya Bhaduri, the children refuse to obey him and constantly flout his rules. Rai Sahab is desperately seeking a tutor for them, but no teacher lasts for more than a few weeks.

Ultimately (Jeetendra) who is jobless takes up the offer to become their teacher. He not only reforms them but Rama and Ravi fall in love. He also mould the displinary attitude of Rai Saheb and the film ends with his consent to Ravi and Rama’s alliance.

The highlight of the film is its music which was composed by R D Burman, it was the first time Gulzar and R D Burman worked together,  This lethal combination later gave Hindi cinema priceless gems over the Seventies and the Eighties

50 Years of Jawani Diwani

Jawani Diwani was released on 14th July 1972, It was a musical romance film directed by Narender Bedi, and starring Randhir Kapoor, and Jaya Bhaduri, A landmark movie primarily because of RD Burman's fast, pounding and melodious score. The movie was a hit despite the unusual and forgettable pairing of Randhir and Jaya.Bhaduri.

It was an era when music was the dominating element and enlisting Rahul Dev Burman for the job ensured half the battle was won After Hare Rama Hare Krishna it was once again Asha Bhosle was at her best combined with Kishore Kumar.

In so far the plot is concerned, this is the simple story of a boy (Randhir Kapoor) meeting girl (Jaya Badhuri) at school, with the usual problems with parents.  The plot does not appeal but the music lingers.

Songs from “Jawani Diwani” impressed the youth and a cross-section of music lovers. “Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani” was a peppy number and went down well with the young brigade. “Saamne Yeh Kaun Aaya” could be heard at most parties. “Nahi Nahi Abhi Nahi” and “Agar Saaz Chheda Tarane Banenge” became popular too but the icing on the cake was “Jaane Jaan Dhoondta Phir Raha” which had a distinct RD touch, a unique blend of instruments that only he could use.

If you have not seen this film, you must see, enjoy its music and picturization of its songs

Caravan- Revisiting after 50 Years

The musical superhit film directed by Nasir Husain featured Asha Parekh, Jeetendra, and Aruna Irani completed 50 years on 5th Nov 2021 and was a super hit in India. You would be surprised to note that it was a super-duper hit in China when it was released eight years after its Indian release. In fact, Caravan, believe it or not, sold 19 million tickets in India – and 100 million tickets in China! One hundred million broke all records in China for a foreign film. One of the earliest Indian films to earn the big bucks in Chinese domestic markets was Raj Kapoor's 1951 Indian classic Awara. released in 1955.

Caravan‘s amazing success in China was matched only thirty years later by Nasir Husain's nephew, Amir Khan with his 3 Idiots.

The movie’s storyline was nothing great. A runaway heiress joins a passing caravan of gypsies, to escape the villain who murdered her father, then falls in love with the leading man, who eventually rescues her from the villain, etc, etc. The film's plot was loosely inspired by the 1953 film Girl on the Run, a little-known crime drama set against the backdrop of a carnival burlesque show, which was changed to a gypsy show in Caravan.

Aruna Irani has a significant role in this film. The traveling troupe featured Madan Puri as the manager and a young Aruna Irani as the star performer Nisha. In fact, Irani nearly stole the show from the film’s heroine with her animated performances in the songs 'Chadhti Jawaani Meri Chaal Mastani', 'Dilbar Dil Se Pyaare' and ‘Ab Joh Mile Hain Toh’.

The screenplay of the film was provided by Bhowmick, but the treatment of the film was all Husain, who turned it into the entertainer that it was. According to the film's star Asha Parekh in her biography The Hit Girl, Caravan happened accidentally.

The highlight of the film was its music, composed by R D Burman, and lyrics by Mazrooh Sultanpuri. In Caravan, there was a song for every mood. There was the soft romantic duet ‘Kitna Pyaara Waada’, the road song ‘Goriya Kahaan Tera Desh Re’, the goofy performance number ‘Daiya Yeh Main Kahaan Aa Phasi’, and, of course, the most famous of them all, the cabaret track, ‘Piya Tu Ab Toh Aaja’ picturized on Helen, which brought singer Asha Bhosle her third Filmfare award for Best Female Playback Singer.

Even after 50 years, the film is still refreshing, if you have not seen the film,i recommend you to see it today.

50 Years of Piya Ka Ghar ( Released on 23 Feb 1972)

Piya Ka Ghar is a typical Basu Chatterjee kind of film produced by Rajshri Filma, In most of his movies and other television works, Basu Chatterjee has shown temperament of telling stories related to the common man. His plots are simple but directed with unmatched skill.Piya Ka Ghar falls in the same line. It portrays the difficulties of life in India's biggest city during the 1970s in the form of a comic family drama.

Piya ka Ghar gives us a glimpse of that life while also highlighting the problem of space and accommodation in Mumbai. Girdharilal Sharma is a middle-class man who is lucky enough to own a home in Bombay. But that home is not big enough for his family. It is a one-room apartment in a chawl and his house is forever busy with guests and neighbors. So even though his newlywed son and daughter-in-law crave some privacy, they struggle to find some. It's a funny yet sensitive take on a situation that still cripples many in the maximum city.

Jaya Bhaduri is the soul of the movie, playing her role close to perfection as the bewildered simple girl from a village who comes to a big city and adopts it gracefully. The rest of the cast, including Anil Dhawan who plays her husband Ram,

Worth mentioning is its music, composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal, and the song “Yeh Jeevan Hai” by Kishore Kumar, other songs  “Yeh zulf kaise hai” by Mohammad Rafi, and  “Piya Ka Ghar Hai Yeh” by Lata Mangeshkar –– are hummable.

The content is meaningful even today. Many lower class Indian couples still face similar problems. If you have not seen this movie, its a must watch
