Theme Songs- 25 Hit PIANO SONGS iN HINDI FILMS

IN Bollywood Movies PIANO was an important Instrument to create a song situation specially in Golden Era of Bollywood. Most leading Actors would be seen playing Piano and singing a song.Nowadays this situation is missing in our movies. It used to be a clever ploy of the film director to introduce a song even when the situation didn't demand it.Sometimes a song starts with a piano and lateron switch to dance or some other scenes.

In my knowledge the first Piano Song was picturised as a piano song. P Jairaj is playing the piano and this song is sung by Renuka Devi. Her father V H Desai looks on and later the villain Rama Sukul too comes in and watches her sing with disapproval. The song is from “Bhaabhi” (1938).Singer-Renuka Devi, Lyrics-J S Kashyap, MD-Saraswati Devi
Jhuki aayi re badariya saawan ki from Bhabhi 1938

Here is a timeless classic  song. “Jawaan hai muhabbat haseen hai zamaanaa” is sung by Noorjehaan and it is picturised on herself. The unforgettable lyrics were written by Tanveer Naqvi and music was composed by Naushad.for the film Anmol Ghadi 1946

Jawaan hai muhabbat haseen hai zamaanaa

Andaj 1949 movie is a movie in whic 4 Piano songs were picturised, all these songs were popular i am posting here this song "Ham aaj kahin dil kho baithe" Dilip Kumar sits at the piano at night and sings this song. And Nargis arrives with her pet dog and watches Dilip Kumar sing the song, clutching her dog like a pillow. The song is sung by Mukesh. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist and Naushad composed the music.

Ham aaj kahin dil kho baithe

This song is a piano song, where Dilip Kumar sits at the piano This song is from “Baabul” (1950). The song was sung by Talat Mahmood and Shamshad Begum

Milte hi aankhen dil huaa deewaana kisi ka

Here is one such song from “Anhonee” (1952). This is a song sung by Talat Mehmood and picturised on Raj Kapoor. It is a rare combination of singer and actor, but the song itself is quite well known and it is in fact a Talat Mehmood classic.

Main dil hoon ek armaan bharaa

This song is sung by Lata and picturised on Nargis. This song is written by Hasrat Jaipuri and music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan. The Film ia Aawara 1951

Here is a romantic piano song sung by Asha Bhonsle and picturised on Nargis and Balraj Sahni. The film is Lajwanti 1958, Majrooh Sultanpuri was the lyricist and S D Burman composed the music.

What a remarkable song it is. Kishore Kumar sings it with gusto. One can feel the energy that he brings into the song. And the song is picturised nicely as a party song where Dev saab sings at a piano and sings this song,The movie is Teen Devian 1965

This song from Anupama (1966) was picturised on Surekha, she  sings this song on a piano wating for  Tarun Bose. Tarun Bose, ever so impeccably dressed in suit/ boot/ tie arrives unannounced and enjoys the singing for a minute and a half before revealing himself to her.

Dheere dheere machal ae dil e bekaraar

In this song Shammi Kapoor is playing Piano,it is a sad song  This song had become a big rage during its time. Rafi’s voice, followed by Shankar Jaikishan’s music that has led to this humdinger of a song.

A TRIBUTE TO GANDHI JI ON HIS 147th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY

To mark the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, in this post I pick five songs that evoke memories of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

Suno Suno Aye Duniyawalo Bapu Ki Yeh Amar Kahani
“Suno Suno…” was released in 1948 as an homage to Mahatma Gandhi a week after he was assassinated. Composed by composers Husnlal–Bhagatram, the song was one of the earliest successes of Mohammed Rafi and lyricist Rajendra Krishan

Sabarmati Ke Sant Tune Kare Diya Kamal (Jagriti, 1954)
This is probably the most popular tribute to Mahatma Gandhi written by  KAVI PRADEEP for Hindi films. Hemant Kumar cleverly merged a simple, bhajan-like tune with refrains of ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ and Asha Bhosle effectively rendered it

Gun Dham Hamare Gandhi Ji
SD Burman recordedon his own voice two songs ‘Gun Dham Hamare Gandhi Ji’ and ‘Sab Desh Ki JantaTumhe Ro Ro Ke Pukare’, when Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated. These songs remained obscure for a long time, till they were re-released by Hindusthan Records in 2007.

Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram from film Gandhi 1982

Raghupati Raghav from film Satyagraha

Happy Birthday Asha Parekh

Asha Parekh was born into a middle-class Gujarati Jain family on 2 October 1942 in Mumbai, she started her career as a child artist under the screen name Baby Asha Parekh in the film Aasmaan (1952). Famed film director Bimal Roy saw her dance at a stage function and cast her at the age of twelve in Baap Beti (1954). The film's failure disappointed her and even though she did a couple more child roles, she quit to resume her schooling.

She made her debut as a heroine from  Dil Deke Dekho (1959) opposite Shammi Kapoor, which made her a big star. The film was produced by Subodh Mukharji and directed by Nasir Hussain, who later casted her as the heroine in six more of his films: Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1961), Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon (1963), Teesri Manzil (1966), Baharon Ke Sapne (1967), Pyar Ka Mausam (1969), and Caravan (1971). She also did a cameo in his film Manzil Manzil (1984).

Her films were essentially cheerful, lighthearted entertainers. Today, they may not count as classics, but are redolent of a more gentler and amiable age of entertainers., She made an impact in Ziddi (1964). Asha played a characteristic no-nonsense tomboy who cavorts around with a cute baby elephant for company. She surprised many in her emotional scenes, which captured her painful passage to adulthood.

The true efflorescence of Asha's talent came in the year 1966, which saw her star in four successful films: Vijay Anand's masterly suspenseful musical Teesri Manzil reteamed her with Shammi Kapoor, Love In Tokyo gave her a chance to dance and emote in picturesque Japan, Aaye Din Bahaar Ke started a successful teaming with Dharmendra (five successes, no flops), and Raj Khosla's rather maudlin Do Badan offered her the opportunity to play tragedy.

She did deglamourised roles in Baharon Ke Sapne (1967), or Chiraag (1969).She finally got the much coveted Best Actress Award in Kati Patang (1970). As the widow whose watery smile hides a painful secret, Kati Patang was followed by hits like Aan Milo Sajna, Nasir Hussain's Caravan and Raj Khosla's Mera Gaon Mera Desh in the early seventies.
Later she concentrated on her dancing  and went on a an extended trip abroad for her dance shows.Asha's obsession with dance continued and her performance of famous dance ballets like Chauladevi won attention.

She did the ocassional film like Raj Khosla's Main Tulsi Tere Angan Ki (1978), or J P Dutta's Hathyar (1989), which made demands on her creativity. But when she found film roles degenerating into the maa-bhabhi glut, she firmly retired from films in the early 1990s.
Her biggest challenge however came with her appointment as chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification,She held this post from 1998 to 2001, where she was forced to take a stand on innumerable controversial issues, but as usual, Parekh emerged with flying colours. She was given PadmaShri by Govt. of India in 1992

Today, she concentrates on her dance academy Kara Bhavan and the Asha Parekh Hospital in Santa Cruz, Mumbai, named in her honour because of her many humanitarian contributions. We wish her long life and remember her with her Super Hit songs

Remembering S D BURMAN on his 110th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY

Sachin Dev Burman(1 October 1906 – 31 October 1975) was one of the greatest Bollywood music directors in the early days of India's film industry.  He was a much sought after composer from the 1940's up until his death in 1975.
S D Burman as a child

SD Burman started working as a radio singer on Calcutta Radio Station in the late '20s, when his work as a singer composer was based on Bengali folk and light Hindustani classical music. Consequently, his compositions were mainly influenced by his huge repertoire of folk-tunes from present Bangladesh and later other parts of India and around the world. His first record was also released in 1932
As a music composer, he started with Bengali plays, Sati Tirtha and Janani, and eventually gave his first score in film, Rajgee in 1937, his second film Rajkumarer Nirbashan(1940) became a hit. He gave music in Bengali films like, Protishodh (1941), Abhoyer Biye (1942), and Chaddobeshi (1944) and only one Bengali film in 1969/70 after he permanently moved to Mumbai in 1946. He composed for over 20 Bengali films and 89 Hindi films in all.[6]
He made his film debut singing in Yahudi ki Ladki (1933) but the songs were scrapped and re-sung by Pahari Sanyal. His first film as a singer was finally Sanjher Pidim(1935).It was during this period this his personal life was developing as well.  He constructed a residence in Calcutta.  Probably the most significant event of his personal life was when he started teaching a young music student by the name of Meera Dasgupta.  In the course of events they became romantically involved.  However there was the problem; although she was well educated and from a very respectable family, she did not represent nobility.  This created quite a stir in the family, and when S.D. Burman refused to leave her, he was forced to sever his ties with his family and forfeit his inheritance.  They married and from their union RD Burman was born in 1939.

In 1944, Burman moved to Mumbai, at the request of Sasadhar Mukherjee of Filmistan, who asked him to give score for two Ashok Kumar starrers, Shikari (1946) and Aath Din,[13] but his first major breakthrough came the following year with the company's Do Bhai (1947). The song Mera Sundar Sapna Beet Gaya sung by Geeta Dutt was his breakthrough song into the film industry. In 1949, came Shabnam, his biggest hit yet with Filmistan, especially noticeable for its multi-lingual hit song Yeh Duniya Roop ki Chor, by Shamshad Begum, which became a rage in those days

In 1950s, Burman teamed up with Dev Anand's Nav Ketan Productions to create musical hits like Taxi Driver, Nau do Gyarah (1957) and Kala Paani(1958). In addition, he gave music for Munimji (1955) and Paying Guest (1957). The songs sung by Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar became popular. Burman da composed the music for Dev Anand's production company Navketan's first film Afsar (1950). With the success of their second film, Baazi (1951) he made it to the top and a long association with Navketan and Dev Anand was on its way. "Baazi"'s jazzy musical score revealed a new facet of singer Geeta Dutt, who was mainly known for melancholy songs and bhajans. While every song in the film was a hit, one stood out for special appeal – "Tadbir se Bigdi Hui Taqdeer", a ghazal that was occidentalised into a seductive song. The 'jaal' song 'Yeh raat Yeh chandni' by Hemant Kumar is an all-time great classic
The Dev Anand-S. D. Burman partnership, under Navketan banner, continued to churn out musical hits like Bombai Ka Baboo (1960), Tere Ghar Ke Samne (1963), Teen Devian (1965), Guide (1965) , Jewel Thief (1967).and Prem Pujari(1970).
S D Burman was the backbone of Hindi Film Music of Golden Era.Some of the greatest hits were from the films Pyasa, Sujata, Kaagaj Ke Phool, Bandini, Meri Surat Teri Ankhen,Ziddi, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi,Talash and Sharmilee other than Dev Anand's films.
Aradhana (1969) is considered another landmark score in the Bollywood history. The music of the movie shaped the careers of singer Kishore Kumar, lyricist Anand Bakshiand filmmaker Shakti Samanta. For the song "Mere Sapno ki raani", Sachin Dev made R.D play the mouth organ.

Sachin Da was the only composer who had used both Kishore and Rafi in almost equal number of songs. He regarded Kishore as his second son. Kishore confessed that it was Sachin Da, who had given him the first chance. Even after the rehearsal of Badi Sooni Sooni from Milli, when Sachin Da had a stroke, Kishore went up to the hospital and said to him "Dada, Please don't worry, your recording is after three days, you just see how well it goes." The song is considered one of the best of Kishore Kumar. Sachin Da also used to telephone Kishore in the dead of night and on the telephone, he would start to sing the new tunes which he composed and ask Kishore to sing with him.

S D Burman was a very good singer, early on in his career, Burman refused to allow his voice be lip-synced on film by actors, as a result, even later on, in Hindi cinema, his thin yet powerful voice was often used as bardic commentary to haunting results, as in Ore Majhi Mere Sajan Hai Us Paar Bandini (1963), Wahaan Kaun hai Tera from "Guide" (1965) and finally Safal Hogi Teri Aradhana from Aradhana (1969),for which he received the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the year, 1970 and in 1974 he was given  National Film Award for Best Music Direction: Zindagi Zindagi
S D Burman went into a coma soon after rehearsing the song Badi sooni sooni (sung by Kishore Kumar) for the film Mili. Sadly, He died on 31 October 1975 in Mumbai
He brought in folk in film songs, and simplified classical to fit in films.  He changed with times so that his music didn’t become outdated. Dada’s music was so refreshing, if you have listened to it once, you have listened to it always. Here I am presenting some of his Immortal Songs
