Shashi Kapoor-The Great Romantic Hero

Shashi Kapoor’s real romance with wife Kendal, an English actor, remains one of Bollywood’d most enduring love stories. He was considered a great romantic hero next to Dev Anand. Though his brother Shammi Kapoor too considered as a great romantic hero of the 60s but he was one of the first leading men in Bollywood to romance his leading ladies in spectacular backdrops like Shimla and Kashmir.
Some of his most popular romantic songs were shot at marvelous locations which sprung to life with his stellar performances and unmatched charm. The first film which made him the successful romantic hero image was Jab Jab Phool Khile starring Nanda. Following that they worked together in many films.

Though he did the grinning, romantic-hero parts very well, he showed an unexpected flair for comedy, and had a reassuring integrity in serious, dramatic scenes, he could seem a bit one-dimensional in commercial films.
He was also the first actor to work in Western films, starring in several Merchant Ivory productions, a company run by Ismail Merchant and James Ivory; the outings included The Householder (1963), Shakespeare Wallah (1965), Bombay Talkie (1970) and Heat and Dust (1982) in which he co-starred with his wife Jennifer Kendal, The Deceivers (1988) and Side Streets (1998).

He set up Prithvi Theatre, he also set up his own production house, Film Valas, which produced critically acclaimed films such as Junoon (1978), Kalyug (1981), 36 Chowringhee Lane (1981), Vijeta (1982) and Utsav (1984), much later, in 1991 he directed his first Hindi film, a fantasy titled Ajooba which had his co-star Bachchan and nephew Rishi Kapoor in the lead. Kapoor was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2011 and the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2015.
He died on December 4, 2017  at the age of 79 .He is survived by two sons, Kunal and Karan, and a daughter, Sanjana, who takes care of the Prithvi Theatre.

Aamir Khan-The Man who breaks his own records

His pictures are not just commercial successes, they’re also critically acclaimed,  Nine of his last ten films have been enormous global hits. With the recent success of Super Secret globally makes him  “world’s biggest movie star.”
For decades Aamir Khan was a known quantity in his home territory, the Bollywood, and as his acting skills became more refined and his role choices more mature, his fan base grew to enormous proportion. What makes him fit to be king, so to speak, is his apparent humility, his devotion to his craft and to making movies that make a difference.

Aamir Khan was born on 14th March 1965 made his debut as hero from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988 which was a super hit film.He established himself as a leading actor of Hindi cinema in the 1990s by appearing in a number of commercially successful films, including the romantic dramas Dil (1990) and Raja Hindustani(1996), the latter his biggest hit up until then and for which he won his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor
In 1999 he founded Aamir Khan Productions, whose first film, Lagaan (2001), was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and earned him a National Film Award for Best Popular Film and two more Filmfare Awards (Best Actor and Best Film). After the success of Lagaan he became Mr Perfectionist,After a four-year absence from the screen, Khan returned to portray leading roles, notably in the 2006 box-office hits Fanaa and Rang De Basanti. He made his directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par(2007), a major success that garnered him the Filmfare Awards for Best Film and Best Director.

He made the first record with Ghazni released in 2008.It was the first film which created the 100 crore club.Till then no Bollywood film could gather 100 crore in domestic Box Office.

In 2009, Khan appeared in the commercially and critically acclaimed film 3 Idiots as Ranchodas Chanchad. 3 Idiots became the highest-grossing Bollywood film ever at the time, breaking the previous record set by Ghajini ,making 200 crore club.
3 Idiots was one of the few Indian films to become a success in East Asian markets such as China and Japan, at the time making it the highest-grossing Bollywood film ever in overseas markets.

In 2013 released Dhoom3 which broke all records at the Box office. It became the highest grossing film in India and overseas. It created 300 crore club
This Box Office record was broken by Aamir again with the release of PK in 2014. The film received critical acclaim and emerged as the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time (the fourth time Khan achieved this feat).

Another record to be broken was Dangal released in 2016.Even immediately after demonetization the film broke all Box Office records. This film created 500 crore club in India and 1000 crore club world wide. In fact this film has grossed 1000 crores in China alone.

Nasir Hussain-The King Of Musical Hits

Nasir Hussain (16 November 1926 – 13 March 2002) had a ear for good, popular music. He gave us many Musical Hits like Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1961), Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon (1963), Teesri Manzil (1966), Baharon Ke Sapne(1967), Pyar Ka Mausam (1969), Caravan (1971), Yaadon Ki Baraat (1973),  Hum Kisise Kum Naheen (1977). Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander (1992).
He started his career as story writer in 1948. The famous films he wrote for Filmistan include Anarkali (1953), Munimji (1955), and Paying Guest (1957).

He directed his first film Tumsa Nahin Dekha in 1957 which established Shammi Kapoor as a successful Actor.
He was very fond of Dev Anand,he wanted Dev Anand to be Hero of Tumsa Nahin Dekha and Teesri Manzil but Dev Anand did not acept his offer, both the films went to Shammi Kapoor.

He also introduced Asha Parekh from Dil Deke Dekho( 1959).After that he had one of his longest associations was with leading lady Asha Parekh, from Dil Deke Dekho, through Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai, Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon, Teesri Manzil, Baharon Ke Sapne, Pyar Ka Mausam until Caravan. After a gap of 13 years, she did a cameo in his film Manzil Manzil (1984).

Rajendra Nath the comedian was a fixture in almost all of his early productions. He was in Dil Deke Dekho (1959), Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai (1961), Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon (1963), Baharon Ke Sapne (1967), Pyar Ka Mausam (1969), Zabardast (1985) and Zamaane Ko Dikhana Hai (1981).

R D Burman was another person who had a long association with him since Teesri Manzil  through Baharon Ke SapnePyar Ka MausamCaravanYaadon Ki BaraatHum Kisise Kum NaheenZamane Ko Dikhana HaiManzil Manzil and Zabardast.
Another person was the lyricist Majroh Sultanpuri who was associated with him in 10 of his productions, apart from working with him in Paying Guest.
In the 80s he lost his magic touch, none of his films were clicking on the Box Office. In 1981 he made Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai but the film flopped, Undeterred, he directed his next film Manzil Manzil(1984) and brought back Asha for a small cameo in the mother role, but the film still flopped. As did his next film Zabardast (1985), which turned out to be his last directorial venture. He then handed the reins over to his son Mansoor Khan to direct Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), which starred his nephew Aamir Khan, which became a big hit. Since Nasir wrote the script, he won the Filmfare Best Screenplay Award. He would win the Filmfare Best Movie Award for producing Mansoor's directorial effort Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), which again starred his nephew Aamir Khan. The final film he wrote was Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995). He won a special Filmfare Award for his contribution to Hindi cinema in 1996.

He was a big fan of Western music — be it the Beatles, Jose Feliciano, Abba, the Elvis Presley songs and these are all referenced in his films. I think this too contributed to his excellent working relationship with R D Burman. He died of a heart attack on March 13, 2002.He will be remembered for his musical hits.

The decade of 1960s was unique for Bollywood in many ways. With the emergence of Shammi Kapoor, Rajender kumar, Sunil Dutt, and, Dharmendra the position of this trio became shaky.Out of the three only Dev Anand gave the tough competition to them
